Medication is useful in treating people with depression. Antidepressants are most commonly used. Mood stabilizers and tranquillizers may also be used.

Most antidepressant medication is used on it's own but some can be combined with other antidepressants and mood stabilizers. Some antidepressants such as MAOI's cannot be used in combination as they could cause a fatal drug interaction. Mood stabilizers can be used to help treat depression as well as bipolar disorder.
